TeamSpeex confirmed working on Intel
The last revision had a small endian bug that caused some nasty sound input/output on Intel Macs, running it under Rosetta worked fine though.
I made a small adjustment to the audio code and Andreas Ley confirmed that it now works natively on his iMac Intel Core Duo 2Ghz with 2GB Ram running Mac OS X 10.4.4 (thanks for testing Andreas!). Here is what he had to say:
Works perfectly! And it’s quite a lot faster than under Rosetta. The native Version peaks at 4.7% CPU usage (out of 200%) when talking and listening while running it under Rosetta peaked at about 20%.
Thanks a lot!
So if you want to run TeamSpeex natively on your brand spankin’ new Intel Mac (lucky you), grab the updated Universal Binary from here:

THANKS! Will try it tonite…although gonna play WOW on my wintendo til THEY come out as Universal Binary (Hopefully tomorrow)
Again, lotsa thanks!

Oh, fantastic. I was trying to get TeamSpeex to work on my Intel iMac, and only horrible static was to be had. It works perfectly now. Thanks for this amazing app.
February 5th, 2006 at 22:31
Everytime I talk it crashes. If I don’t talk it’s fine. But when I talk it crashes sometimes.
on 10.3.9, powermac G4 dual 867mhz 2gig ram, T1 connection.
February 9th, 2006 at 16:32
I haven’t tested audio, however there still appears to be some byte swapping issues in selecting the Push to Talk key. For example, a shows up as x, Tab and Cmd, Cmd as some right facing arrow, and ` as Esc. However when running this app under Rosetta it can pick the correct key.
February 10th, 2006 at 02:10
Tested this universal version for compatibility on PPC with a PowerBook G4 1.25GHz, 1.25GB Ram, Mac OS X 10.4.4.
The good news is that it appears to work fine. CPU usage appears similar too. So the recompile isn’t a problem for retro-compatibility. Tested two way conversations and config etc. The bad news is that my Mac Book Pro 1.83GHz won’t arrive until 22 February. I’ll be testing TS with WoW universal the second I get the wrapping off…

Off Topic:
Woot, I see you have it set up with Growl now! Great job!
Can you add Triggers for when someone is talking?
I know it might not be something everyone wants, etc, and it could be annoying. I would say set it as Off by default. But I would love this option, it would help me know who is saying what.

February 11th, 2006 at 12:15
Growl Triggers for talking are a great idea! Would this work when playing WoW? That could help so much!
February 11th, 2006 at 22:05
Just… Wow.
This app is amazing. I love you guys
February 12th, 2006 at 01:18
Growl Triggers for talking would work if you want wow in Maximized windowed mode, its a mode that make your game look fullscreen, but its in a window, allowing you to have things float above wow, and interact with other apps too.
Look in your video options to try it out.

thanks a lot for your work but a tar.gz would be better
February 22nd, 2006 at 16:41
And… why?
February 26th, 2006 at 12:18
Yes, thanks a lot for that nifty application.
February 26th, 2006 at 17:42
I’m getting the same issue that Eric is with version 1.0beta r406 on an Intel imac. On a 2Ghz Imac running 1.0beta r406 i am not having any problems with the byte swapping problem.
I resorted back to an earlier beta 2 version and on the Intel Imac (running rosetta) the problem goes away also.
anyone have any ideas of why the Intel Version has this problem?

I just thought i would post some of the weird parsing problems that i’m having.
When I select which Hotkey i want in preferences and try to rebind the key, If i hit the “1″ key it selects “4″, Key “2″ = “3″, Key “3″=”2″, Key “5″ =”y”, Key “6″ = “t
“, key “`” =”ESC”, Something is really screwy on the key selection.
Under the Rosetta version, everything seems to be working fine though. (although it does seem to crash more if I am using “wifi” vs “ethernent” for my networking

Will you publish an alternative Win32 Client soon? Is that even possible?

He’ll most definitely not make Win32 client.

Hi!
I just purchased my first Mac, an iMac Intel. Have a few noobquestion. The TeamSpeex seems to work fine. I can hear people in my channel, but they can’t hear me. Can anyone tell me how I can activate my mic, and how I can get push-to-talk? I also found out that when I enter Worl of Warcraft it seemed like TS was turn of or something. In WoW I couldn’t hear poeple on my channel any more. Anyone have a suggestion to what I should do? I know this is noob things, but I never used a Mac before, so I need help
- A puzzeld NooB
March 8th, 2006 at 18:05
I tested it with my new Core Duo iMac 17″ and I can only hear what other people are saying but they can’t here my speak.
March 9th, 2006 at 00:05
I don’t have an Intel Mac, but you need to press the hotkey to talk, teamspeex is “Push To Talk” by default, or you need to enable voice activation. You can set the hotkey in the Preferences of TeamSpeex, you can also enable Voice Activation there.
March 11th, 2006 at 03:13
I recently downloaded the newest client, and I just wanted to thank you so much for your wonderful program. It’s truly great that I’m able to talk to friends and fellow gamers through my Mac, and even better that I can do it for free.

Hey Guys,
Just wondering when we will see a new release of Team Speex?
Thanks!
Jason
April 14th, 2006 at 13:19
Works fine on macbook pro fully loaded. thanks a lot. need donation?
April 17th, 2006 at 22:26
Works great on my PPC Mac mini and my MBPro, thanks a lot!
April 25th, 2006 at 20:39
How about an update on current status? Next beta release date? Also, can anyone comment on adding GSM codec compatibility? I know - it’s speex, which is better, but adding GSM compatibility would let more people use it.
May 7th, 2006 at 17:50
Just installed the new version (1.0betar406) and though I could listen and speak in our teamspeak channel, it crashed my iMac Intel twice while speaking.
Both times it were “hard” crashed … you that screen where it says “You have to turn off your computer now …”.
:-(
May 7th, 2006 at 18:39
Used it in Rosetta mode and it crashed my mac again after about 20 minutes of usage.
I’m using the ALT key as activation key which could possibly be a problem? In the preferences, the activation is sometimes empty although I specified the ALT key before.
Using the ALT key worked fine for me all the time before.
By the way, I was playing World of Warcraft when using TeamSpeex. That worked perfectly fine before for hours of playtime with an older version of TeamSpeex.
May 25th, 2006 at 13:58
At Last !! Thanks a lot for this great free stuff ! In Universal binairies.. it’s perfect !
May 31st, 2006 at 11:39
Well, I’ve finally got my mates on WWII online to change the codec their TS server uses to Speex and all works well - I can hear them! Which is weird actually, but helpful. Can’t talk - no mic! No problem though.
Anyway I’m deeply impressed with this software but would like to add one small suggestion that no doubt has already been thought about …
It’d be helpful to bookmark TS servers with a name rather than an IP address. That simple!
And one small bug, I think. The port for the WWII TS server I use is not the default port Teamspeex starts with yet I have to change it everytime - Teamspeex remembers the IP address but never the port. Not really a nuisance, but a little bit inelegant!
Anyway, again, superb work. Thank you so much!
June 10th, 2006 at 17:28
I play WoW and I am on the Dalaran Server in the Smoke Gods guild. Now, in our general chat, I hear everyone fine, but when I switch to the different “Offices” they set up, or any channel outside of “General”, then I have a message that says, “This channel uses an unsupported codec: CELP 5.1 Kbit”
Anyone know if there is a fix to this?
June 16th, 2006 at 13:12
TeamSpeex on suports the Speex codec. No other are suported.
July 14th, 2006 at 04:30
I’m so excited to have a Mac client for TeamSpeak, I don’t know what else to say except THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Well, I guess I could pitch in and offer my feedback. So far, I’m thrilled that I can talk with my PC-using buddies, but very sad that I can’t assign keystroke combinations like Cmd-Shift-Up to switch channels. Sorta makes it hard to use for gaming. It’s almost there — keep up the great work!
BTW, I’m using this on a MacBook Pro. I saw the same prob described before, where the shortcut key that I set for Push to Talk doesn’t show up as the correct key, but … it does work with the correct key, so it’s not a real prob for me.
Not being able to change channels with keyboard, while in a full-screen game — that is a problem.
:D
July 25th, 2006 at 19:16
how about a new version with more features?
August 2nd, 2006 at 23:08
The new beta works great and stable
Perfekt & thanks a lot for this prog
I think it will be better then teamspeak 3 if it will release in 10 years
August 19th, 2006 at 16:13
On my Intel Mac I have the same problem with the key switching when selecting push to talk, and at first thought my friends simply couldnt hear me, untill I read here that I had to re-assign my push to talk key. works great now, thanks. And in world of warcraft it works fine, though it seems to auto-disconnect (connection timed out) if I dont say anything for 15 mins or so. Though that hardly ever happens.
August 21st, 2006 at 07:02
I am glad to have TeamSpeex on my Intel Mac .
Thanks for the wonderful app.
Is it possible to have a localized TeamSpeex ?
such as Japanese or Chinese
September 10th, 2006 at 01:05
That is not yet possible
September 10th, 2006 at 19:53
I am so glad to have this available.
There are a number of bugs I have seen, most resolve about just deciding to stop working, so that I have to log out and then log back in. In most cases the icon shows my mic open but i can neither hear, nor say anything.
Tothose who run into people running CELP — I simply tell whoever is the channel admin to go over and switch the codec to speex and in most cases they comment on how much better it sounds
Get Beta 3 out please….
September 16th, 2006 at 01:54
Hello….
I like the concept of this…however….am running into some problems using external interfaces with the prog.
For instance, I have tried two MOTU firewire interfaces (Traveler and 896) and got constant stuttering from the audio that was being passed from me (could hear everyone else fine).
On USB interface (Roland UA-30) everything is fine, and no stuttering occurs.
Could you possibly look into this and the firewire issue….hate having to plug in a USB interface just to play WoW.
Thanks and good job on the port!
September 27th, 2006 at 14:06
hello very nice Great running on my other machine Job Well done Guys
October 23rd, 2006 at 23:20
When joining a team with a password set I get this ‘error’:
[23:17:51] This channel uses an unsupported codec: GSM 16.4 Kbit
[23:17:51] You will not be able to hear or send voice until the channel codec is set to a Speex codec
Is there any way to make this work?
October 24th, 2006 at 12:22
Great app! Thanks.
Would like to second request for key command combos for switching channels. For those of us that play full screen games, possibly tied in with Speech announcements of channel names that we switch to.
Speech announcements of players joining and leaving channels with preferences to disable would be nice too, similar to what the Windows users enjoy.
Thanks again for a very fun app.
October 25th, 2006 at 00:27
@Justin
That is due to the channel codec not being a speex codec. as a CA or SA if they can change the codec to a speex codec to allow you to talk..
October 25th, 2006 at 06:33
@SleePy:
Is there no way to install the GSM codec so it can be used? I have no way of changing the codec of the room.
October 25th, 2006 at 23:56
Also having the bug with “Push to talk”. I was able to hear my teammates in World of Warcraft, but had to type back my responces.
1.83Ghz 17″ Core Duo iMac running 10.4.8 ad the current build.
December 3rd, 2006 at 08:15
any work being done on to finalize this? or is it pretty much ‘good enough’ so no more work being done?
December 9th, 2006 at 00:52
To echo Tom, is there any progress made as of late? Also, a feature that would be nice is an audible alert when you drop connection. I have noticed that during battlegrounds I will sometimes loose connection but not know it because I play in full screen mode. Its not a big deal to pop over and hit reconnect, but if I knew I lost my connection I would be better about getting it back up again.
December 30th, 2006 at 07:32
Offbeat feature request: I’d like a keybinding to play arbitrary sound files into the channel. You know, so when somebody forgets to bring their FR pots we can have Illidan yelling “YOU ARE NOT PREPARED!”
December 30th, 2006 at 19:57
It works perfectly, thx !
January 17th, 2007 at 18:45
It doesn’t support CJK?
April 4th, 2007 at 23:44
I was able to download the program however I can not disable the “mute sound” option under the “status” menu. no matter what i try it won’t let me bring the sound back… is this an issue with the program or my microphone?
April 8th, 2007 at 17:28
Hi, any news about the further development? Thx.
April 14th, 2007 at 20:22
Works perfectly! Thanks for this amazing app.
And yes, when will there be any news about further development?
May 2nd, 2007 at 01:59
Have happily used this program for about a year now. Since I got my current iMac intel 2.0ghz, I seem to be the only one ever who can’t tell who is typing to them when people send me a text message, or in the case of messages sent publically.
All messages from anyone appear as ie:
all : test test
With recent developments or whatnot the problem seems fixed for everyone else who encountered it with the exception of me. Am I missing something with my OSX or something else? Any thoughts appreciated
May 3rd, 2007 at 00:17
We’ve all been using it over here without any problems from the latest release. This is on the newest MBP — great application to use for those who prefer to use a TeamSpeak server instead of a Ventrilo server.
May 15th, 2007 at 06:05
Please please please add channel command feature! Or if you aren’t going to change the app, release the source so someone else can!!!
May 18th, 2007 at 10:36
Thank you for giving access to TS from our Macs.
One full year and more, without any update?
It works, so it’s fine, but…
Features suggestions:
a standard icon in the toolbar to open the prefs
an icon in the toolbar to toogle on/off Voice activation
a key to toogle on/off the Voice activation. Audio feed back will be nice for that, since we may use it with the app hidden.
a push-to-”silence” key. When pressed, mic is muted (usefull when the Voice activation is on).
option for instant connecting: at startup, the app try to connect to the last used server.
recent server list: could the last server be pre-selected, instead of showing a blank field, forcing user to open the drop-down menu?
Cheers from France
Hope you have time and motivation for update
May 23rd, 2007 at 12:51
This works perfect, have had no bugs at all.
May 24th, 2007 at 09:43
Teamspeak is great!!
June 6th, 2007 at 08:10
anyone get this working with a PowerMac G5 with a Logictech USB headset and mic?
I can hear, but they can’t hear me. My audio control panel is showing audio input from the mic.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:20
Nice software, thank you !
A little bug : when I connect to a TS serveur using an url like :
teamspeak://ts.snipersgaulois.com?nickname=~SG~%20Kalish
(where “%20″ = a space url encoded)
…I obtain that on connection window : “nickname ~SG~%20Kalish”. The name isn’t url decoded
http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/5646/picture1jp0.png
It will be nice to repair that in the next release
Good game all !
August 30th, 2007 at 23:24
October 26th, 2007 at 19:33
Hey! Leopard!
Teamspeex has been a charming help in the past months. Any idea or reports, how Teamspeex runs on Leopard? Smoothly? Not at all? Thanks!
November 3rd, 2007 at 23:52
I downloaded the last version of TeamSpeex today an run it under Leopard. Works fine for me!
Please, keep coding…!
November 26th, 2007 at 21:23
TeamSpeex 1.0b2 works without any problems on my MacBook Pro (4GB RAM) under Leopard 10.5.1
December 5th, 2007 at 23:11
Works fine on my Macbook 2.0ghz intel core 2 duo, 1gig ram and Leopard 10.5.1
Thanks to all the developers of Teamspeex you’re doing a good thing for us mac users
December 13th, 2007 at 18:25
Its a shame the developer of this has disappeared….any chance or giving it to an open-source group for further development before TS3 comes out?
Its a great app.
January 2nd, 2008 at 17:06
Newer versions of TeamSpeex would be great since the TeamSpeak Team seem to not pay attention to Mac users.
Cheers!
January 28th, 2008 at 19:35
Why did you stop developing?
It still works fine though, but there are still some issues.
Thank you anyway for having developed such a great Application for us Mac Users
January 31st, 2008 at 02:47
Hi,
I wanted to first send my compliments to you for your devotion to us! Thank you!
I was noticing one thing though, and that is when someone from the channel sends a global message, all it says for the name is *all:
I don’t know if this is a known problem or not, but it is kinda hard not knowing who is PM’ing me.
Other than that, your new version I think has fixed a bluetooth error message that I had.
GREAT JOB, and I look forward to the future.
David

Please reconsider fixing problem [r266]
March 29th, 2008 at 21:32
Hey, I’ve been using TeamSpeex for quite a while now. Just switched to a new iMac and Leopard, and everything works except the Push To Talk-Key - I can neither use nor set it, no matter if I run TeamSpeex through Rosetta or not. Voice Activation and everything else works fine, though. Any suggestions? Thanks!
March 29th, 2008 at 22:06
As an addendum to my previous comment, I found the problem. It seems as long as Sofa Control ( http://www.gravityapps.com/sofacontrol/ ) is running, TeamSpeex can’t get Keyboard input. As soon as Sofa Control is quit, everything works fine, except for the “Wrong PTT button displayed” error described in the forum.
April 8th, 2008 at 19:51
I am using Teamspeex for a while now - there is no alternative for the Mac I think… but having been a PC user formely and beeing used to Teamspeak2 I really miss the keybinding buttons! Isn’t there any chance you might add this? Whisperbuttons for chatting with one or more set players, regardless in wich channel they/you are… I really need this
April 16th, 2008 at 23:05
I’m using and suggest teamspeex for scoutlink mac user like me.
I’m testing also tonight with my powerbook G4 12″ (2003 - usb 1.1) 768MB RAM 867 MHz mac os x 10.4.11
Please continue development, please!!
April 29th, 2008 at 18:57
I was told about TS through some friends of mine in France (on PC’s). Since downloading and using v1.0beta2 for over a month, I am throughly impressed. It has worked perfectly on my MacPro 2.66 w/OS X 10.5.2. I have not been bug hunting so there may well be some. All I do is talk. And for that it is awesome.
I also use the latest PC version of TS on WinXP when booted into it from my Mac. Perfect also.
My friends have said that I come through 5×5. I sent them some screenshots of the TS Preferences and Main windows, they were helping me set it up and didn’t understand my end, now, I don’t understand French, but even I could tell that they were VERY impressed with the Mac version. It sounds like they are jealous. In fact we are conversing now as I type this.
I have tried a couple of headsets, the Cyber Acoustics Model HS-400 works better than the Logitech Model ??? (Cant find it). I also use my Samson CO1U USB mic.
Well done. And thanks for the “Continuous Improvement” attitude.
May 8th, 2008 at 13:41
I second the request to release the source for this, there has been little development since early 2006 and although the latest version still works with Leopard and TS2 there are several of us that could contribute to the code and make it even better than it already is. One area that I’ve added to another voice comms program is voice effects, that would certainly put the Mac version ahead of the official PC release.
May 16th, 2008 at 01:21
I also put forth a request to open source this. There is obviously no commercial interest in developing this product but the contributions it would extend to the community are immense!
May 23rd, 2008 at 13:08
You’ve done such a great thing for the Mac community bringing us this project. But the software is showing some age and has some significant issues. If you really have moved onto other projects, could you please give the development reigns to someone else?
Thank you so much for all you have done.
June 13th, 2008 at 23:31
TeamSpeex crash very often on Intel Mac (OSX 10.5.3). It is possible to fix it?
July 29th, 2008 at 11:49
Hi, it’s my pleasure announce you that teamspeex is adopted as speex client also from world wide scout event named JOTI (acronyms for Jamboree on the internet) also for 2008 edition.
Have you any plan to translate it?
Greetings from Italy
November 22nd, 2008 at 04:59
I have only one word to say:
T-H-A-N-K-S !!!
I can’t believe now I can connect and talk to my friends. You did a superb job, thanks forever!
December 5th, 2008 at 13:41
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
December 15th, 2008 at 03:58
Thanks for the great software - I’m using TeamSpeex now for about 2 years without any major problems.
Every 2-3 months I revisit this page to look for updates but still there’s nothing new.
As others above have already noted, there are some things that could be added or fixed.
It would be nice if you could make a statement about the future of Teamspeex…
Greetings from Germany
January 3rd, 2009 at 18:28
Still nothing new here now for years (2006/01/29), so I think Teamspeex is dead.
Anyone interested in programming a new open source client for the mac?
What I want:
- Intel and eventually PPC client
- Interface similar to Teamspeex
- Server Administration capabilities
- Some cosmetic changes
- Teamspeak3-Support for the future
Please contact me:

I AM USING TEAMSPEEX ON A Dual 1.8GHz PPC G5 OS X Ver 10.5.6 WHAT SHOULD I USE TO TALK?
I have no built in mic, line in, and line out on back of my tower. I can connect and hear everyone fine, but they cant hear me when hitting the command key. When I press the command key in my Teamspeex window it hi-lites my name, and yet (again) no one can hear me.
What should I use? Has anyone successful got this to work on this computer?
May 18th, 2009 at 23:14
USB headset will work. Plug it in before running TS
June 16th, 2009 at 16:54
Your website has a lot of solid advice to a newbie like me. It is easy to read and understand the many statements, they are relevant and logical. It is also interesting to learn that a company needs to market their own website and the tools to be used are many and it is understandable that a hard work is needed. Nothing comes easy especially not the many promises about how to make a profitable website. Many different competences are needed and cannot be found by the same person so maybe it would be logical to have a good network consisting of the total amount of qualifications needed to bridge the gap between visions/dreams and reality. The construction of this bridge represents a huge challenge if you want to do long term business with high quality clients but once you are there the rewards are many!
