Welcome Back!
You may have wondered why you couldn’t reach this site the couple few days.
The reason was that due a Denial of Service attack the server didn’t come back online again, it actually didn’t boot into Linux anymore
So the server underwent a complete new distro install, which is up and running perfectly now. It should feel a little “snappier” as well because the server got a small hardware upgrade too
If you haven’t got any email replies from me the couple of days, it was because of this unfortunate incident. I will try to catch-up with replying.
I have gotten very positive feedback on the open beta, very good bug reports, and alot of help offers, which range from users offering to mirror my files, suggestions from other Mac developers, to someone working at the abuse department of XS4ALL (the #1 ISP in Holland) asking if I needed help with this DDoS issue. Now ain’t that cool?
About the bug reports, I will make a seperate page that will list the current know bugs and planned features. I will also put a page to list all the suggestions and features which I wish to implement.
Now, to hopefully clear up some future misunderstanding regarding TeamSpeak-Systems, they do not intend to take legal action.
We have been mailing back and forward a bit the past few days, and they said I shouldn’t be alarmed by the first email and then we discussed some issues.
So you should know they are not working against me, infact they are helping.
They have offered to host my files, and a seperate section for TeamSpeex on their forums as well until TS3 arrives, so really there is no need to worry. Thank you TeamSpeak-Systems, it is much appreciated

Finally up and running again, good to see things are doing well with TS. Greets from Hangzhou.
October 21st, 2005 at 22:08
Nice everything seems to run fine
October 21st, 2005 at 22:15
Heh, finally. I was starting to wonder how long such a DoS attack could take…
Anyway, thank you very much for your email I just received. Greatly appreciated.
Can’t await coming releases of TeamSpeex, maybe even a server version for Mac sometime so we wouldn’t depend on existing PC/Linux TS servers anymore and could do it ourselves (but you answered me about this topic in an earlier email already
).
Also, it’s great that we have worked things out with TeamSpeak (mainly in their official forum, where I discussed and investigated a bit, also in their german part).
I’m sure they can be a great help in case of legal issues (like other non-opensource codecs) or even better compatibility, and of course feature implementation (possibly even with permission of looking into their code). Maybe you could even join their Mac developer team and speed things up a bit.

But your app has worked flawlessly on my G5 so far.8)
October 22nd, 2005 at 04:20
Echo what Splendor said - we have some place we can put this for you if you need another mirror or two.
Also anxiously awaiting the public server fixes.

i have sometimes this error : “unsupported codec” when i am moved to admin channel
October 22nd, 2005 at 19:00
Wow! Awesome! Works fine on my iBook with OS 10.4 and a friend is using it on 10.3.
Not sure where to file bug reports so…….
I downloaded the “no unicode support” version for OS 10.2. and 10.3 to install on my iMac which is running 10.2. Everytime I try to start the app, it briefly appears in the dock, and then just goes away without the Teamspeex window ever coming up. I’ve got the crashreporter file if you want to look through it…
Great job!
October 22nd, 2005 at 22:22
Send bug reports and crashreport files to: teamspeex@gmail.com

Great Work !
I just wanted to say THANK YOU ! this is what so many ppl were looking for including me !
hope this will work out right with more supported codecs in time and maybe sometimes a server version like said before. !!
Keep up the good work !! = D

Thumbs up! Have been using it with my WoW clan-
Only issue is I can’t use a USB headset- doesn’t recognize any other devices beside internal mic/speaker. Menu button to sys prefs works but doesn’t rebind the open firmware device. Guess you’re working on it by now….
PB G4 10.4.2
Finally! TS fo Mac…you r0xx0r!
October 24th, 2005 at 17:08
Johnny, if your USB headset is not listed in TeamSpeex, it’s probably an issue with PortAudio.
If you select Built-in device, it will use the default input/output device that is used in the system prefs of OS X. (might need a restart of TeamSpeex).
So if you use your USB headset as output device in OS X’s system prefs it should be your output device in TeamSpeex as well when selecting Built-in.
I’m not sure if my statement is correct as I dont have an external USB headset to test with.
October 24th, 2005 at 19:10
You are right. TeamSpeex will list whatever outpu/input source is available in the System Preferences settings. Restarting TeamSpeex after connecting and setting up the Sound prefences might be a good idea.
Unless the usb headset is using some funky 3rd party drivers. Than it might not work properly but if the headset is recognized by the system without using any extra drivers then it should work with TS.
Works with my USB 5.1 audio input/output adapter which btw is recognized by the system without installing any drivers.

Excellent Work!!!
This looks very promising! However, I think I found a potential problem.
My Guild has a TS Server and we use a setup where we leave the LoginName Blank. The TeamSpeex interface appears to NOT allow the LoginName to be left blank.
This might cause problems for people who have servers that allow blank LoginNames.
Excellent Work!! /Donating Now
October 24th, 2005 at 22:04
Banister,
I had no idea you could have an empty LoginName. (registered user right?)
if that’s true I will make the adjustments.
October 24th, 2005 at 22:21
Brilliant, ran it with World of Warcraft, playing with 4 friends on PCs, worked for 4 hours with no problems. Used caps-lock as transmit key, worked fine, but looking forward to Voice Activation, wouldn’t mind an “always transmit” option in the interim. Great code!
October 25th, 2005 at 04:08
Oops…
Please disregard my blank login names comment. :secret: !doh!
Anonymous with a password, works just fine. I’m a idiot

Hey,
October 25th, 2005 at 13:52
Thank you very much for your app, so great even for a Beta. Of course, ichat 3 help us a little to speak together, but only between mac users (not really a problem as we are only mac users in our clan). If you haven’t enough mirrors i can keep you a space for your file. Be sure to have few money from us when a full working version will be released (with admin possibilities). Thank you, Milhouse.

October 25th, 2005 at 19:27
Is there any possibility of a teamspeex that works on machines with OSX older than 10.3.9? That would be a great if there was any plans on that
Or if anyone has any idea how to get it to work on 10.3.8 and older. And no, uppdating the system is out of my possiblities.

$10 US sent - keep up the good work.
October 25th, 2005 at 23:39
i cant actually create a chan or whisper people, and ppl can ear me but i cant hear them.. and seems like my channel commander doesnt work.. i’m a noob or is a common bug?
October 26th, 2005 at 00:00
Steve .. did U tried pushing FN key to be heard by your m8s ??
Is there any way to avoid pressing FN to talk ?? Something like “always transmit mic” o similar ??
Thx and great job m8 … i really appreciated …
October 26th, 2005 at 00:14
just bind caps lock
October 26th, 2005 at 04:05
Awesome idea!
I set my push to talk key to the caps lock and it works great! Push it to turn it on and then push again to turn it off. It’s great for longer periods of chit chat.
How ’bout a way to store server addresses for easy retrieval? I’m using the 10.3.9 ver and it doesn’t seem to remember the addresses. No biggie tho’… I just jot them all down in a simple text file and copy/paste them when I need them.
Thanks for making a great software! I had given up on the TeamSpeak developers… looks like I wasn’t the only one
October 26th, 2005 at 10:24
Tanker, it should remember the addresses, try clicking the pulldown menu in the connection screen. it saves the addresses after each successful connect.
I have not tested it on 10.3.9 though, so if it doesnt work then its probably a “feature” and i would like to know about it :p
A favorites/bookmarks option is planned.
October 26th, 2005 at 10:47
Woot glad to see the official devs don’t have their heads up their ass on this topic. (Letting someone else make mac users a client)
I look forward to more betas, and VOX/Voice Activation support!

October 26th, 2005 at 19:05
Does anyone know if there is a mac version of the teamspeak 2 server? i thought i remember there being one (just not a TS2 client) but it is no longer on their download site.
teamspeex is still running great for me!
October 26th, 2005 at 19:47
Nice work.
Looking forward to new versions.
One thing that is kind of strange is that I get a high pitch noise from my G5 when I have TeamSpeex running. Same occure on some other programs like Blizzards bittorrent download programs.
No idea why some programs produce this noice. It is gone when I quite the program. Anyone else having this problem also?
October 26th, 2005 at 23:03
Frippe: i think by changing the system pref where you have “system preformance” can fix this. either change it to “highest” or “automatic” (which ever is it not currently on), i think
October 27th, 2005 at 17:51
Yay, welcome back! Love TeamSpeex, I’m using it every day and it performs like a champ. Any chance you’ll be accepting PayPal donations?
October 27th, 2005 at 21:54
anyone else unable to talk to other mac users, but PC users work just fine?
October 27th, 2005 at 22:05
Dave, its a known bug, a temporary solution is to set the codec to Speex 12.3 KBits and other Mac users will be able to hear you and vice versa.
I have already fixed this bug, and hope to make a new build available this week.
Josh, look in the sidebar of the main page
October 28th, 2005 at 08:20
I run a large Teamspeak server and finally someone has bridged the gap between Macs and PC users. !tada
Tonite I was able to register 2 mac users on our teamspeak but we had to do a sneaky thing as Mac users only have 3 tabs on their teamspeak Inspect - Connect - Disconnect. Therefore they could not register under the Self tab as it was not on their window as it is on PC user teamspeak window.
What I did was i created an account for them, had another teamspeak SA allow me to register, I then created a log in name and PW. Then I log out and let them log in using the same log in name and PW and voila they were permanantly registered.
I could hear them and they could hear me. Mac to PC
But they couldn’t hear each other. Mac to Mac
We tried different Codec settings but they do not work, we couldn’t talk to each other anymore. The only Codec setting that works is Speex 16.3 kb
We are still working on it, but if anybody has any ideas, I would appreciate hearing from you.
October 28th, 2005 at 13:56
Hey Simon since Teamspeak hasn’t made a mac client forum for Teamspeex, youu should create your own forum. Thatway people could respond in the forums in a nice, neat manner instad of having 50-100+ responses per blog entry. Just post the entries there and let people respond there, that type of thing. If end up wanting to do it and need any help just hit me with tha email.
October 28th, 2005 at 14:01
gah i meant to say to say that to the admin. smacks self on head
October 28th, 2005 at 14:08
First things first: Thank you!
But a bug reared it’s ugly head, at least when i tried to connect with fellow german players: When entering a server which uses a password with certain german letters like ö, ä ü, the client crashes at once. Not using ö and ä just gives you a disconnect because the password was wrong, but no crash, which i verified a few times, so it has to be the non-english letter.
October 28th, 2005 at 16:19
If I connect to a srever which hides the players in the channels,
I am not able to see anybody when I switch to a channel, only when
my friends leave and join the channel again evrething works fine.
It is a great programm because now I can talk to my Friends while I am on the Road. Thx and keep up the good work.

October 28th, 2005 at 21:21
Any plans to have the software to be able to use a voice activated option? I am asking, because some of the players in Warbirds 2005 have the option of using this option. Sure would make easier to speak when the user is involved in dog eat dog fight.
:confused::confused::confused:
October 28th, 2005 at 23:26
D’oh… I should have thought of that…was overjoyed an enraptured at the sheer opportunity to hear wit and witticisms of my fellow guid-mates….I’ll give it a crack tonight….
October 29th, 2005 at 00:59
A true life saver for Mac gamers! Your product is great and I look forward to future updates. I’ve used it in numerous World of Warcraft raids without a hitch. I sent a donation to show my appreciation. Keep up the good work!
October 29th, 2005 at 08:32
thank you so much for making this. i saw on your bugs and features page that you added and fixed many things. when do you plan on releasing the next version? 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks , w/e
October 29th, 2005 at 14:17
Hi,Ive been reading all this with great interest and it certainly seems like a great thing for mac people! What I would really like to see for complete dummys like me is a step by step talk through on how to get TeamSpeex to work, just a basic tutorial really so I can set it up.Any ideas anyone??
October 31st, 2005 at 07:38
Hey Tony,
I’ll try to make this as complete as possible, if you need any further explanation, please comment again:
1.) Download Teamspeex, open DMG, copy Teamspeex to Applications folder
2.) Start Teamspeex
3. Go to TeamSpeex -> Preferences in your menu bar
4.) Under Audio Tab, set up your input and output devices, and volume level.
5.) Under HotKey tab, select the button you want to use for “Push to Talk”.
6.) Close Prefrences, click File->Connect
7.) Under Server address, enter the server you want to connect to, for example “127.0.0.1:8795″ or “ts.myclanhomepage.com”.
8.) Under Nickname, enter the Nickname you want to appear under.
9.) Select if this is an Anonymous server, or one with registered users.
10.) If the server requires a password, enter it in the “Server password” field.
11.) Click “Connect”. If your settings are right, the server roster will appear.
12.) Double-click on a channel name to join that channel.
13.) If the ball left of your nickname is green, everything is okay, and you can now press the “Push to talk button” - the ball will turn into a speech bubble, and everything you say will be broadcast into the channel. If the ball next to your Nickname is red, then the channel you are in does not support the Speex codec (The only codec Teamspeex currently supports) - in this case, either try a different room or get ahold of the server adminds and kindly ask them to change the room codec to Speex.
14.) Done! You’re teamspeaking.
For testing purposes, you can use a TS public server - voice.teamspeak.org:10050 - you should be able to join, but you can’t talk in the main room, and TeamSpeex currently doesn’t allow you to setup new rooms. But if you can get into the server, you’ll know that it works.
Most larger guilds operate TeamSpeak servers, depending on what game you want to use it with - in case you are not a member of a guild, well, what’s the point of having TeamSpeak?
October 31st, 2005 at 07:48
Arrgh, correction time. You CAN speak in the Default Channel of voice.teamspeak.org:10050 - I still had my Bluetooth headset set as input/output device, but it’s not activated right now.. sorry
October 31st, 2005 at 09:03
where is the hotkey tab
October 31st, 2005 at 09:25
ok, all people say they can hear is a “clicking’ noise from my end
October 31st, 2005 at 13:29
Thanks kingmob, Ill give it a go,cheers Tony:)
October 31st, 2005 at 20:46
Tim: The HotKey tab is in the Preferences. As for the clicking sound, I can only guess - either you didn’t set up your input device right, or muted it, or something else is wrong. Did you get the green ball next to your nick in the server roster, and does it turn into a speech bubble when you press the hotkey? If yes, then please recheck that your microphone does indeed work.

hmm i dont know if it’s my headset but i get this sound when i speak sometimes. It come usually when I play games like Wc3
November 1st, 2005 at 17:24
Oh sweet Mary… All this time we have be in virtual darkness while TS users were working us over. Swarming us with their intel. It was so frustrating getting picked off by lesser players because their teamates were able to tell them how to surround us.
Surely there are more important endeavors in this world, but none come to mind right this minute.
Thanks.
November 2nd, 2005 at 00:49
This is a great program can’t wait for the Full Version to come so we can host servers, etc.
Great Job Savvy!
November 2nd, 2005 at 02:22
Everything is a green on my end, but nobody can hear me talk.
Using a regular mic, which I tested on Windows and does work.
November 2nd, 2005 at 08:32
Badger,
You can test if your microphone really works in OS X, open Quicktime and start a new Audio Recording via the File menu.
November 2nd, 2005 at 09:09
When a teammate and I tried the system we could hear the other PC users in the group but could not hear each other. When we had the system to ourselves we tried it but still no joy. I did notice that when either of us hit the talk button the other Mac user dod not see the icon change on their side. It was like the other Teamspeex program was not noticing the channel stat had changed and would not let it broadcast.
My 2¢ worth.
November 2nd, 2005 at 14:39
Tried looking to test the mic in Quicktime, but recording looks to be a feature in the Pro version, not the freebie.
I did find under System Prefs –> Speech, a way to calibrate your mic for Speaking commands, and it wasn’t picking up any sound. Gonna swing by the local Mac shop and see if they have any USB Headsets/Mics and give that a try.
November 2nd, 2005 at 18:58
WallyK: it is a known problem and will be fixed in the next version. The workaround for now is to set the Speex codec to speex 12.3kbit on the server.
Badger: You can blame Apple for not providing a standarised Line-in plug. They have a plug of their own that no other headset in the PC insustry is using. Try using an USB headset or an USB adapter for input/output audio.

November 2nd, 2005 at 19:38
On the bugs&feature page you’ve striken out the “ibstdc++.6.dylib error”, now I’m wonder where and how I can get hold of the that version of teamspeex where it was fixed, the one on the download page doesn’t seem to be the newer version.

November 2nd, 2005 at 21:21
Thanks Rob! I’m was going to get a USB headset anyhow.
November 2nd, 2005 at 23:05
Hey, I just recently got team speex and it was going great until i tried to change channels. It says i need a password. But when i try to register a password when connecting to team speex it doesnt work! Can someone help ME PLEASE
November 2nd, 2005 at 23:37
arneanka: Many of the bugs are fixed in the internal beta builds. It should be released soon. You just have to wait a little until it is released.
dane: The TS server admin that you are connecting to have set a channel password the channel you tried to switch to. The channel password can be different from the TS server password. Ask the TS admin for the channel password and when you are at it ask the admin if he is using speex codec. The Mac client works only with the speex codec.

November 3rd, 2005 at 03:32
Badger,
If you looking for a good headset (one ear piece) and your still going to use your regular speakers then try the Playstation 2 usb Headset. I have one and love it.
If your looking to go full head set with 2 speakers then look at the Logitech usb headset.
For those having issue talking Mac to Mac you need to make sure the server is using the speex codec at 12.3kbs. 12.3 is the only one currently that works Mac to Mac.
November 3rd, 2005 at 11:31
Footy: using only a microphone and hearing the audio through the speakers is not recommended. You will hear the noise from the game while you speak and might be very distracting. For best experience you should be using a full 2 ear headset. And one that is comfortable to wear as you’ll probably will spend a lot of time wearing it while playing.
//Rob
November 3rd, 2005 at 11:41
Rob,
Would you be interested in a dedicated section for TeamSpeex discussion over at www.teamspeaktalk.com? We could offer download resources for new releases, etc. As well, creating a centralized place for all TeamSpeex bugs, questions, etc would be very handy.
Anyways, it’s just an offer and some ideas. Let me know what you think.
November 3rd, 2005 at 14:21
I’m really glad that there is a Mac client now! I play on my PC but I would like to run TS on my laptop (Powerbook) so that I can see who the heck is talking!
Unfortunately, I’ve had some problems with the audio “disappearing” after a period of time (and always at the most inconvenient moments). The audio in my USB headset just disappears even though I can still see their green bubbles turning to the “talk” icon and other people in the channel have told me in game that their is still conversation going on. The worst part is that I have to reboot to get the audio to come back. I have tried restarting Teamspeex and rejoining the server but still do not get any audio until a reboot.
Thanks for the great work so far!
November 3rd, 2005 at 17:34
I install TS in my powermac G5 and all ok, but i cant hear other users, and they can hear me.
My USB headset is a new logitech and fuction perfectly with Skype…
Any solution?
THX….
November 3rd, 2005 at 22:57
ignem,
What codec is is the channel running that you’re connecting to?
November 4th, 2005 at 00:10
Rob,
Not recommended? By who, you?
It can be done without distraction, most guys I race with use it in this manner and it’s a non issue. I will concede that once voice activation is implemented in the next release this will be an issue as some will have the sensitivity set in a way that will open the mic and it’ll take so me adjustment by them to get it right.

Footy, I’d definately suggest Robs advice. One thing you have to consider is the users that are listening to you. If for example you start to talk while someone else is talking, they’re going to hear their own voice from your speakers. Trust me, it’s a PITA!
November 4th, 2005 at 01:17
Thanks Jeff,
I understand what your saying but I’m not, nor are any of the others I run with, having issues because of running Teamspeex sound in headset and game sound via external speakers. I’m not saying I’ve never heard the issues you speak of because I have a few times. However, it’s really a non issue and to suggest that I’m not running my setup in the right way is just wrong. I run it the way that works “for me”.
And the suggestion is pretty much impossible for someone gaming on a PC but using Teamspeex on a Mac as I do a lot of times. Unless I wear 2 sets of headphones. LOL Yeah I guess even that is possible.
November 4th, 2005 at 10:48
Not sure Jeff but is a TeamSpeak channel, nad think that use SPEEX…
November 4th, 2005 at 15:12
Footy: don’t get me wrong. Just because I said it is not recommended it doesn’t mean you are not allowed to do it. You decide what works for you.
Before Mac TS client came out I used an old PC for the TS client and played on my Mac. I routed the sound from the Mac to the PC and had both TS and Mac games sound on the headset which was connected to the PC. Worked great. I am sure you could something similar but the other way around. But of course you can use your one ear headset if that’s what you want.
Jeff: Thanks for the offer but I think now that Savvy opened an official MacTeamSpeex forum I’ll be posting there.

i have seen this posted before, but i don’t think it has been addressed.
after usingi TS for 20 minutes or so, no one can hear me anymore. they tell me all they hear are “clicks” when i try to talk. the only fix i am aware of is to re-boot my entire computer. simply restarting TS does not correct the problem.
thank you,
Alexander

Savvy, I am not really sure where to post bug reports so I just am using this. But, my friend and I are both Mac guys and I got him to download this for easy communication via my good friends server. I have been using that server with absolutely no issues - they can hear me and I can hear them perfectly. The problem is that my friend logs in and I can see that he is there and he has everything configured right, but I cannot hear him nor can he hear me. What I find odd is how he can hear the other people on the server. I don’t even see his little bubble turn to blue when he says he is trying it.
Thanks.

Ed: You can use the forums to post your issues. I believe the problem you are having is known and fixed in the newer builds.

Thanks for bringing TS to the mac community
I can finally hear my teammates’ voices.
Only one problem: I don’t have that Fn key on my keyboard and I don’t even know how to make that shortcut (Fn? FN? ^FN?). Tried to find that but failed. Even accidently wiped all my shortcuts to do this
And no mike function…
